Hip Resurfacing is similar to a total hip replacement from a surgical perspective. Instead of cutting off the arthritic top of the thighbone (femoral head and neck), the head is reshaped and resurfaced with a metal mushroom-like cap. Hip resurfacing leaves more of your natural bone in place.
Hip Impingement/Femoracetabular Impingement (FAI)
Hip impingement is a condition that causes hip/groin pain in early adulthood. Treatment can consist of medications, avoiding aggravating factors, and physical therapy. Despite nonoperative treatment, surgery is indicated in an effort to help prevent early arthritis and need for joint replacement. Surgery can be performed arthroscopically, with less pain, or open, depending on the patient´s anatomy and problem area.
